It’s flu season— here are some remedies to ease you through it.
Oh flu season. In all its glory it can be a time of circulating colds. That. Never. Seem. To. End. Often these periods of heightened symptoms encourage and promote deep cleansing within our systems and organs. Fevers don’t just act on the new bacteria alone but also work to kill off pre-existing pathogens and bacteria. It is not unheard of or even uncommon for individuals and parents to take note of huge shifts post-viral fever (ahem maybe stop taking suppressants right away, fevers serve a purpose).
With that being said there is a way to offer the body deeply nourishing and replenishing support during a weakened state. By doing so we give the immune system the boost it needs to effectively rid the body of what is no longer serving it (new, or old). Take a peek below to see our go-to staples during heightened healing symptoms (AKA sick af).
*You can find links to immune system-supportive supplements in the “Supplements + Support” section of Wellness Essentials.
Must-haves for overall support
- Nebulizer
- Homeopathy
- Honey & lemon
- Elderberry syrup (for those without histamine issues)
- Briotech topical spray
Homeopathy—
Systemically homeopathy is going to be your biggest ally when you are unwell. The extensive benefits will help in times when the body gets “stuck” trying to self-heal. Symptom presentation is the key to using the most effective remedy. However, the combination remedies are an excellent place to start especially if you are brand new or not able to get remedies on short notice. Check out Jennie’s CCH Instagram @the.enlightened.homeopath and Kathy (@kathy.yeo.homeopathy) for their amazing flow charts (the best resources ever) Influenza, sore throat, ear pain, conjunctivitis (pink eye), RSV, and cough. As well as dosing insight includes dosing for babies.
Our favorite combinations to have on hand include
- Boiron Cold Calm. Made for infants in predosed packaging, and a separate product for older kids + adults
- Boiron Chestal. The best cough syrup. Also can be purchased in pellet form. This product knocks coughs out quickly!
- Oscillococcinum. This is another top hitter for flu symptoms especially relating to fevers & body aches.
Nebulizing—
Nebulizing changes the game. Useful for prevention, early onset, and when symptoms are at their peak. Nebulizing increases airflow in and out of the lungs. The relaxation effects it produces on our breathing muscles allow for deeper penetration of supportive and healing products into the tissues. This stimulates a healing response instantaneously as well as offers immense relief. Our go-to products for universal support that we nebulize are Briotech SOS, saline, and magnesium. However, there are tons more that are most helpful under different scenarios. Kendra HHP created a free guide that clearly and concisely lists the best products, the amount to use, and what symptoms (and age range) they’re best used for.

Get lottssss of rest. Give your body lots of grace. And remember that suppressing your symptoms is not doing your body any favors. There are all sorts of ways to offer support and relief that don’t include a bunch of side effects (that linger long past the cold). If you find yourselves in a never ending spiral of illness consider constitutional homeopathic care. We also go into reoccurring illness in our symptoms + support section. But while you are here, often times if you are staying sick your body is needing lots of foundational support to replenish what is depleted. Sunshine (circadian support), good food, minerals, having fun, reducing stress, and staying warm are easy ways to offer that support and when you can dig into more ways (we offer lots in the foundations resources).
