Our kitchens are where we prepare, eat, and store our food. They can be a place that compliments our healing efforts, or they can unintentionally hold us back. Food and drinks cooked or stored in toxic cookware absorb harmful chemicals and carry them into our bodies. This creates a domino effect of disturbances throughout various systems and bodily functions. Environmental factors are a huge piece of the puzzle in understanding why we aren’t feeling well and functioning at our full potential. Check out our non-toxic living section for more recommendations, favorite brands, and other items in the kitchen and around the house.
Swaps
- Non-stick Teflon pans for stainless steel, ceramic, and cast-iron
- Aluminum foil for unbleached parchment paper & silicone mats
- Plastic Tupperware for glassware, stainless steel, mason jars, or ceramic
- Plastic cutting board for a bamboo or wooden cutting board (glass works but is harsh on knives)
- Plastic Ziplock bags for paper bags or reusable silicone bags
Don’t stress about eliminating every toxic item all at once. Small subtle shifts produce more sustainable changes that last. Any step is a step in the right direction and lowers your overall load.
Implementing cleaner products does not have to feel overwhelming. Aim for 1-3 a month, or any number that feels good, and hey if you want to do a complete haul go for it! But, only when if it feels easy.
